Discussion:

ACUTE HEPATITIS- serology.: reference microbiology ananthnarayan

  1. Immediately after the infection with HBV HBsAg appears in the serum. But HBsAg may also appear in chronic infection also.
  2. Anti-HBsAg appears after the dissapearnace of the HBsAg. The gap between the appearance is called WINDOW PERIOD.
  3. IgM Anti-HBcAg appears 1-2wks after the appearance of HBsAg.
  4. Anti-HBeAg appears concurrently with the HBsAg.It is of IgM type.
  • so therefore prescence of HBsAg says that the person is infected and carrying the virus.but cannot diffentiate acute or chronic. But prescence of IgM type of Anti-HBeAg says it is acute hepatitis.                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Next top pick                Previous top pick
