Treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia:
  • Tretinoin is an oral drug useful in treatment of APL.but it produces Retinoic acid syndrome.Retinoic acid syndrome is characterised by fever dyspnoea,chestpain,pulmonary infiltrates,pleural and pericardial infusions.This syndrome appears within 3wks of treatment.
  • APL is also responsive to Cytarabine and Daunorubicin but DIC is the major complication with them.
  • Arsenic trioxide is useful in Tretinoin resistant APL.
